Music and Social Change

Nowadays I am doing #FutureLearn MOOC "Exploring English" conducted by British Council discussing music and culture of Britain. There is a question about protest song in my country and whether it bring a social change.
Secondly, British protest singer Billy Bragg said that social media are replacing music for youngsters to protest, so what is our opinion about it.

Indeed music has a very strong role in making the social change. I remember when I was in school in 90s different songs were became very popular among the masses; Ehtisaab (Accountability) by Junoon band.

Ye baat kisay maloom nahi by Najam Shiraz were great hits.

There were also many poets who wrote against the politics and government of the country, Ahmed Faraz and Habib Jalib were most popular among them.
These days my country is going through an evolution period. Protests and sit-ins are going on in major cities while Islamabad is the center of these demonstrations. Music has the quality to attract people and bring a change in their mind-sets. If the melody is rhythmic with powerful lyrics people do come forward and definitely make a change in the society.
Tabdeeli agai hay yaro (Change has come my dear friends) is another popular song to bring the political change among the people of Pakistan.

Secondly, I think Billy Bragg is right as it is the era of technology. It takes time to make a song but delivering one's message through social media is the fastest and cheapest way which has become our part of life and tweeter is playing a vital role in it. We have the examples of Egypt and Turkey and now let us see what will happen here in Pakistan.
