Storytelling in Digital Games

It is very difficult for me to answer this question because I won’t play video games.

Actually I am a book-lover. I played games in my school days. Mario-type, Castle, and... I don’t remember the third one. I did like Mario-type because due to that game my typing speed had increased. That was the only thing which attracted me towards the computer game.

Though Mark Butler has given a very insightful knowledge regarding computer games storytelling but still I do not have any inclination towards these games. I want to explain my point by giving the following example. I give tuition to a forth grade student and the story is inspired by a chapter from his language book.

Once upon a time there was a pirate named Lady Sasha. Her ship named "Calypso" was travelling in the Caribbean Sea in search of a Devil's Peak where a red and golden glow appeared at the summit in different timings throughout the day. There were certain rumors associated with that glow, in which most famous was that the glow is the group of wretched souls of dead pirates.
Lady Sasha wanted to meet her dead and most trusted fellow  Johnny Two Thumbs who was killed in an attack by Blue Beard. Lady Sasha planned to see Johnny and asked about the incident so that she could take revenge with Blue Beard.
Calypso was travelling in high speed of an unknown nautical miles to reach the Devil's Peak as soon as possible because the sun was setting in a few hours. Lady Sasha and her gang reached the summit in two hours. Lady stepped down with Red Bull and Tommy, she asked others to make boot-camp for the night and started climbing towards the peak to meet the lost soul of Johnny Two Thumbs.
At the middle of the mountain all three of them heard a bang...

When you are reading this story, you are creating your own landscape and surrounding. You have completely engaged in the creating process which is the true essence of storytelling.

So read and create your own world of imagination full of vibrant colors, full of fun and excitement. : )
